Production music sessions

Today i had the pleasure of meeting the creative director at Warner Chappell production music. We had a good chat about my guitar playing, my composition work and how i may be able to do some sessions for the label in the future. This is a very exciting prospect for me, as this is a potentially lucrative and also enjoyable industry for me to be working in.

For those of you that don't know, production music is music that is used in TV, Film, Jingles, radio etc that is not written or performed by commercial artists. For example there may be an episode of a popular TV show coming up, that needs some rock based music in a particular scene. what they will do is use some music that is in a music library, otherwise known as production music. So i may have written and recorded a particular rock piece that the TV producers like, and they will play my piece on their show.

Ive got a couple of bits to work towards at the moment and hopefully this is something i can really break in to in the future. the coolest thing about these kinds of sessions is that you don't need to travel, as you can record this stuff in your own studio and then send it where it needs to go. I'm still willing to travel to do a session but this does seem to solve the location problem, as its always hard making a living as a musician living outside of London.
