school guitar lessons

Watching don't stop the music this week has made me realize how fortunate both myself and the kids i teach are in the schools my company Cutting Edge Guitar is currently operating in. I am lucky to be teaching around seventy kids per week in schools, and also on top of that running Three rock and pop workshops at three different schools. Considering the state of music education in schools im feeling pretty lucky to have the opportunity to share my passion with these young and talented people.

I feel completely blessed to be able to inspire these young minds in to making music with this wonderful instrument, and i also feel blessed that they inspire me to keep working and improving myself. The range of music tastes i see every week is absolutely outstanding, one moment i could be playing the latest Ed Sheeran song, the next i could be playing some Dire straits, maybe even a bit of neo classical metal, or some crazy Jazz fusion pieces. Then i can be teaching a bit of Blues or another modern day chart topping pop tune. Its crazy how much variation there is in these young peoples tastes, but at the heart of it they are all captivated by the guitar, and the power to be musical with this most glorious instrument.

Probably my favorite thing to do though in schools is run the rock and pop workshops, as its so nice to get to see the young minds get together and create, or even recreate music they love. Im so lucky to have the best job in the world, and im also so lucky that the parents of the children i see are willing to pay good money for my services of teaching the Joy of music. Its a good job that the parents are behind the children i see, as according to dont stop the music things aren't looking great in music education. However with people like the kids i teach there is hope, as they will spread the word about the power of music, and hopefully go on to teach the next generation of players.

For many of us players of any instrument, music has saved us from the bad times life can throw at us, and its down to those of us that have the power to pass on the knowledge to give other people the chance to experience music. Hopefully one day Cutting Edge Guitar will be able to operate in schools all over the country to allow youngsters of all backgrounds the opportunity that these lucky few have at the moment.
